When you lay on it, it responds like a air mattress, puffing up on the sides of the mattress with any weight. It isn't soft necessarily as the mattress seems firm in the middle, but the sides don't seem that sturdy. It may have something to do with the external cover, but it feels like there is air in the mattress....very odd
